I LOVE LOVE LOVE doing VSN (Virtual Stamp Night) over on Splitcoast Stampers. I completely forgot to email my ideas in this time to be a hostess, but I have just as much fun partcicipating either side of the forum. This month is the mini VSN - there's only 5 challenges to get you all fired up ready for the big VSN which has about 15 - 20 challenges over a Friday night and all day Saturday. Each challenge is supposed to take you about 45 minutes to complete and this time I was fairly good - I only went over on a couple by a few minutes! This VSN's theme is a Pirate Party!
Challenge #1 was to use fabric on your card. I had to raid my Mother-in-law's quilting basket for some scraps of fabric as I have none at all, other than felt which didn't count! This card is also for Make It Monday's Challenge #12 to use hand drawn frames and for Paper Pal Arts Challenge #91 to use buttons on a CAS card. I don't do CAS as a rule, so this is as close as it gets! This one took 48 minutes - only 3 minutes over.
Recipe:
Stamps: Turning A New Leaf, Think Big Favorites #2 both from PTI
Papers: Ripe Avocado, Stampers Select White both from PTI, Basic Black from SU
Inks: Basic Black, Old Olive both from SU
Accessories: Fabric from MIL's stash, Buttons from stash, Embroidery Thread from stash, Ripe Avocado Ribbon, Beautiful Blooms Dies #2 both from PTI, Black Gel Pen
Challenge #2 was a sketch challenge so I combined it with this week's CR84FN Color Challenge #26 to use kraft, pale yellow and gold. A gorgeous combo - look at the fab inspiration piccy. This one took 46 minutes - only a minute over!
And here's my card for it.
Recipe:
Stamps: All About You and All About You Additions both from SU
Papers: Kraft, Harvest Gold, Distressed Dots Paper, Pretty Pastels Paper, Stampers Select White all from PTI
Inks: Memento Tuexdo Black, Copics, Crumb Cake from SU
Accessories: Lemon Tart Buttons, Double Ended Banner Die both from PTI, Stickles Frosted Lace
Challenge #3 was an inspiration challenge using the given photograph. I initialy struggled with this one as nothing inspired me until I found some papers in my stash - the Seaside Collection pack form Kaisercraft. I was looking for some papers for another challenge and stumbled on these beachy ones. I used old Mojo #80 for the sketch and CC02 to use Barely Banana, Ruby Red and Not Quite Navy, all of which were in this paper - ok so the yellow is more So Saffron, but I think I can get away with it! This one took 32 minutes - 10 of which was spent clearing up the mess my 3D gloss made - not sure if you can see the ring near the beach ball. It wasn't coming out of the tube so I squeezed a bit too hard and it made a HUGE splodge everywhere!
Recipe:
Stamps: None!
Papers: Barely Banana, Ruby Red (both retired) from SU, Seaside Collection from Kaisercraft
Inks: None!
Accessories: Navy Ribbon from stash
Challenge #4 was to use the colours of orange, green and yellow, inspired by the colours of a parrot, the faithful sidekick of many a pirate. I love this bright colour combo! I used the sketch from Sweet Sunday's Challenge #115 as well. This one took exactly 45 minutes 52 seconds! I have a stopwatch running on my computer and as soon as the last piece is stuck down I press stop! Just in the nick of time with this one!
Recipe:
Stamps: Signature Series: Butterfly from PTI
Papers: Daffodil Delight, Wild Wasabi, Whisper White all from SU, A Walk In The Park Papers from Echo Park
Inks: Pink Pirouette, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Wild Wasabi all from SU
Accessories: Sizzix Daisies #2 Die, Sizzix leaf #2 Die, Wild Wasabi Ribbon (retired), Oval Punches Square Lattice Embossing Folder all from SU, Corner Rounder, Card Candi from Craftworks Cards, Swiss Dots Embossing Folder
And the final challenge #5 was to use wood of some kind on a card. I used my woodgrain embossing folder and a mini wooden peg. I also used sketch #45 from Walzting Mouse Stamps (I did order some new stamps from WMS on Thursday and am anxiously waiting for them to arrive now!). This one took 42 minutes to complete.
Recipe:
Stamps: Frame It, Victorian Frippery both from Waltzing Mouse Stamps, Take Note from PTI
Papers: Early Espresso, Wild Wasabi, Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla all from SU
Inks: Wild Wasabi, Early Espresso both from SU
Accessories: Wild Wasabi Ribbon (retired), Linen Thread both from SU, Mini Wooden Peg from Hobbycraft, Medium Scallop Border Die from PTI
And that's all from this VSN folks! Thanks for stopping by!
