It was Virtual Stamp Night over on Splitcoast Stampers this weekend. This is a set of 17 challenges over the Friday and Saturday and each challenge is on a similar theme, although there are a huge range of different techniques involved. This VSN was called Summertime in the Land I love and was all about summer! I love doing these as I get such a buzz from racing through them all to try and complete them within the 45 minute timeframe, although I don't always spend that long and sometimes spend longer but I don't think the VSN police will be on my back!
Anyway, Challenge A was to make a CAS card showing food related to summer! I don't do CAS very often as I always want to add more layers. This one in theory has 3 layers if you count the mount and image as separate ones, but I think I can get away with it! I combined this one with Just Add Ink's #32 to use material or ribbon on a card. Easy one me thinks!
Recipe:
Stamps: Mouse Holding Ice Cream from Tina Wenke, Everyday Button Bits and Polka Dot Basics both from PTI
Papers: So Saffron, Chocolate Chip, Copics White
Inks: Chocolate Chip, Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics
Accessories: Oval Nestabilities, Pretty in Pink grosgrain ribbon, Pastel Raspberry Liquid Pearls
Challenge B was to use a window on a card either as a framed image or a cut out aperture. I used Mojo #153 and used it as a framed image. I also used CC118 to use Cameo Coral, Chocolate Chip and Certainly Celery and for once I liked the Cameo Coral on this one!
Recipe:
Stamps: Upsy Daisy
Papers: Cameo Coral, Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla, Spring Fling DSP
Inks: Certainly Celery and Cameo Coral markers
Accessories: 3D Gloss, Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon
Challenge C was to use the wax paper Cuttlebug resist technique, which is to embossed a cuttlebug folder onto waxed paper and then iron it on to some glossy paper, ink over it and then you are left with a reverse embossed piece of cardstock. 2 problems with this challenge: 1. no wax paper and 2. no iron! Believe it or not I don't do ironing - I have an ironing service do mine for me. I do own an iron, but I couldn't tell you where it is and I'm not sure it even has a plug on it! So I improvised and embossed with versamark instead!
This one is also for Our Creative Corner's sketch #30 and CC11 to use More Mustard, Mellow Moss and Brocade Blue.
Recipe:
Stamps: Spiral Bouquet, Mega Mixed Messages both from PTI
Papers: Brocade Blue, More Mustard, Mellow Moss DSP from hostess pack, Stampers Select white from PTI
Inks: Brocade Blue, Mellow Moss, More Mustard, Versamark
Accessories: Brocade Blue grosgrain ribbon, More Mustard grosgrain ribbon, Mellow Moss buttons, Playground Buttons, D'Vine Swirls Embossing Folder, Clear Embossing Powder
Challenge D was to by inspired by camping! I haven't been proper camping since I was a kid and my parents bought their first 6-berth tent. The last time I did go camping was at Reading festival in 1996! I hate camping and completely miss all my creature comforts!
Anyway this card was inspired by the flowers and birds you usually see out in the woods where people go camping! I used Mojo #45 for the layout and Color Throwdown's #107 to use Pretty in Pink, Rose Red, So Saffron and Pear Pizzazz.
Recipe:
Stamps: Garden Dream, Whimsical Words
Papers: Rose Red, Pear Pizzazz, Whisper White, Sweet Pea DSP
Inks: Certainly Celery, Rose Red, SU Markers in So Saffron & Pretty in Pink
Accessories: Eyelet Border Punch, Rose Red grosgrain ribbon
Challenge E was to be inspired by a holiday at any age. My first holiday abroad was to the South of France to a little quaint town called Port Grimaud. It's opposite the bay of St. Tropez and is affectionately called the mini Venice of the South of France as most of the main town is made up of canals. I have such fonds memories of this place - the summer sun, pure blue sea, swimming amongst tiny fish, the stunning scenery around Millionaires Bay, the day trip to a perfumery in Grass, the trip to Monaco and Monte Carlo, buying lots of funky french clothes and jewellery, but most of all, fresh baguettes for breakfast everyday!
I also used old Mojo # 25 for this one with the colours of the Tricolore!
Recipe:
Stamps: Solid Stripes & Merci from SU, 12 days of Christmas from Penny Black
Papers: Brilliant Blue, Basic Black, Whisper White, Real Red DSP from hostess pack (retired)
Inks: Brilliant Blue & Real Red markers, Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics
Accessories: Red brads from stash
And that's all of Friday's challenges. Be sure to come back and check out all of Saturday's too!
